El Refugio has been owned by the Agudelo Uribe family since August 2020. What began as a way to spend more time together and reconnect with nature has grown into a shared passion for producing exceptional specialty coffee.

The farm sits on the slopes of the same mountain range as the Ruiz Volcano, where rich volcanic soils nourish 7.5 hectares of young coffee trees. Here you’ll find distinctive varieties such as Geisha, Sidra Bourbon and Ethiopian heirlooms, most of them just three years old.
Before coffee, this land was used for livestock. Today, the family is restoring it by planting native shade trees and building an agroforestry system. These trees protect the coffee from strong winds, enrich the soil naturally, and create a habitat for local wildlife, especially the many birds that call the region home.
Most of the harvest takes place between October and January, with a smaller fly-crop from March to June.
All coffees from El Refugio are currently fully washed, a process that highlights the clarity and character of this young farm’s terroir. Using an eco-mill system, cherries are carefully sorted, pulped, fermented for around 24 hours, washed, and slowly dried in parabolic dryers until the perfect moisture level is reached.
The result is a clean, vibrant coffee that reflects both the land and the care of the family behind it.
